2.9m nets for distribution in Ondo

A total 2.9 million nets are set to be distributed free to families in communities of Ondo state between October 28  and 2nd  November 2017 in efforts to prevent malaria.

Already, a campaign team of health workers drawn from the Federal Ministry of Health, Ondo state ministry of health and the Catholic Relief Services is in the state to mobilize households October 7 to 15, 2017.

According to Nneka Ndubuisi from the Catholic Relief Services, malaria is accountable for almost 97% of death in children aged under five and pregnant women.

According to her, apart from the huge social and economic burden to our communities and country, billions of naira is lost to malaria annually in form of treatment, prevention and loss of man hours.

During the campaign period, she said household mobilizers will visit each household, register them and issue net cards adding that a net will be given to two persons and maximum of four nets to a household.

They listed some of the benefits of sleeping inside the nets as prevention from mosquito bites and spread of malaria, sound and undisturbed sleep and saving of lives, money and stress.

The nets according to the team would last for three years if used properly..
