2 arraigned over alleged theft of N3.2m in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two suspects, Faturoti Babatope (35) and Akinwumi Kayode (52), at the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and one other person now at large, between May to July 2025 and January 13, 2026, conspired to steal.
Inspector Oriyomi alleged that Babatope stole N3,215,700, the property of Ajayi Olawale, while Kayode conspired with one Adewusi Alabama Abigael, currently at large, to pervert the course of justice in the stealing case.
The prosecutor noted that the offences are punishable under Sections 421, 187(a) and (b), and 110(i) & (iii) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister A. O. Okeya, urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring the magistrate that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until February 12 for hearing.
