Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have busted a secret production plant where different brands of fake engine oil are produced at the popular Trade Fair market in the Ojo area of the state.

Two persons alleged to be the producers of the fake products were also arrested during the raid carried out by the detectives.

Those arrested were identified as Obinna Kinsley, 40, and Patrick Ezenwnne Obinna, 40.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects belong to a ring of criminals who are specialists in the production of fake vehicle engine lubricants.

Owohunwa said innocent and unsuspecting members of the public who have unknowingly bought the fake engine oil have fallen prey to the antics of the gang.

He said: “On August 25,  2023, at about 3 pm, based on credible intelligence on the production of fake engine oil in Swiss park Trade-fair International Market, operatives of the command swung into action and one Obinna Kinsley ‘m’ and Patrick Ezenwnne Obinna ‘m’ aged 40 were arrested. 66 kegs of fake engine oil with Total oil stickers were recovered from the suspects.

“Effort is ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate. Meanwhile, those arrested will soon have their day in court to answer to their respective crime.”
