2 arrested over alleged rape of hawker in FCT community

Two suspects have been arrested by vigilantes for allegedly raping a 14-year-old hawker in Bako community, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspects, identified as Saleh Bala and Awwalu Musa, were apprehended following the incident, which occurred on Sunday in a forest area within the community.

A vigilante member, Hussaini Ibrahim, said the suspects lured the victim to a friend’s room under the pretext of paying for bananas she had earlier sold to them on credit.

He alleged that the suspects took advantage of the situation and sexually abused the girl.

According to him, a neighbour who noticed suspicious sounds raised an alarm, prompting vigilantes to storm the scene and arrest the suspects.

“They were seen coming out of the room half-naked, which raised suspicion. We quickly moved in and arrested them,” Ibrahim said.

The victim was later taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the rape.

The suspects have been handed over to security agencies, while investigations are ongoing.

A security source confirmed the arrests and said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
