The police in Ondo State say it has apprehended two suspects for conspiracy and attempted child stealing in Ogbagi-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen on Wednesday in Akure.
Jimoh said the suspects were apprehended on March 22 following a report from a resident, Mrs. Olanireti.
According to Jimoh, Olanireti reported that she had sent her three-year-old son to meet his grandmother, who lived behind her shop. Shortly after the child left, a member of the public raised an alarm concerning suspicious activity involving the child.
Jimoh said the suspects were intercepted thanks to the gallantry of the child’s grandmother and several daring residents.
“Personnel of the command arrived at the scene swiftly and successfully rescued the child unharmed,” he said.
The spokesperson added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a “discreet and thorough investigation.”
He emphasized that the command is committed to uncovering the full circumstances and any possible wider criminal network surrounding the incident.
“The command will ensure that anyone found culpable in the matter is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Jimoh said. (NAN)
