Two persons have been arrested over killing in Lanto village, Kuje Area Council. Two yet to be identified farmers are alleged to have killed a 28-year-old herder, Abubakar Suleiman.
A resident of the area, Hashim said the incident happened on Wednesday around 12:30 pm, when the herder let his cows to graze in a groundnut farm.
He said the deceased herder and one of his kinsmen were in the groundnut farm when the two farmers came and met the cows grazing.
He said the farmers were provoked when they started chasing the cattle and the herders stood by insulting them (farmers).
“So one of the farmers ran after the herders and snatched a cutlass and stick from one of them, which he then used to hit him,” the witness said.
He said the herder died on the spot, while his kinsman ran to their camp a few metres away from the community and reported the incident to their parents.
He added that the family of the deceased boy later came and carried the corpse back to Kuje town.
When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the incident, saying two suspects had been arrested in connection to the incident and that investigation was still ongoing.
