Two brothers, identified as Yakubu Sheneni and Usman Sheneni, drowned when their canoe capsized while crossing river Gurara in Chakumi community in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A relative of the deceased, Tanko Shilani, said the incident happened on Saturday, around 5:23 pm, when the two brothers, aged 14 and 16, were crossing the river to a neighboring Daku village in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
He said the two brothers were on a sallah visit when the canoe they boarded capsized.
He said one of the boys, who was controlling the canoe, lost control due to the overflow of the river and the canoe capsized.
He said their remains were buried on Sunday.
