2 Businessmen to spend 6 months in prison for receiving stolen property

A Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced two businessmen: Muhammed Sani (29) and Babangida Umar(38) to six months imprisonment for receiving stolen property.

The convicts are residents of Dei Dei in Abuja while the offence against contravenes the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Alhaji Gambo Garba, convicted Sani and Umar as they pleaded guilty to the count charge of receiving stolen property theft leveled against them.

The judge, however, gave the convicts option of N20, 000 fine each.

Garba said that the court was lenient on the convicts because they saved the court from prolonged trial but and warned them to shun crime.

The prosecutor, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that on June 14, one Sani Ibrahim and three others were arrested and brought to Zuba Police station Abuja, for an offence of belonging to a gang of thieves.

Ogada said that during police investigation, Ibrahim confessed that Sain and Umar usually buy  stolen property from him, a development he said led to their arrest.

The prosecutor told the court that during police investigation,a  stolen Tecno Phone and car batteries were recovered from Sain and Umar.(NAN)
