2 charged over possession of Indian hemp in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, Ayodele Lekan (39) and Olaosebikan Ropo Henry, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Aina, told the court that the defendants were found in possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp on December 29, 2025, at about 1am within the Iyin-Ekiti Magisterial District.

Inspector Aina said the offence is punishable under Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act, LFN 2004.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Timmy Omotosho, urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring the court that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, D. M. Babalogbon, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
