2 charged with stealing of cocoa seeds worth N7m in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned two men, Opoola Olufemi Akure (40) and Bamisaye Peter (50) before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on January 24, at about 10am at Ido, Off Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti, the defendants stole cocoa seeds valued at N7 million, property of one Oluyemi Amogbon.

Inspector Oriyomi said on the same date, time and place, they threatened violence against the owner.

The prosecutor noted that the offences were punishable under Sections 421, 302, 69(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his clients bail, the request, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, granted in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each and adjourned the case till April 15, 2025.
