The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two people, Thomas Joy (20) and Adebayo Ayomide (24), at the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over an alleged threat of violence and possession of Indian hemp.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on August 21 at about 10am in the Omisanjana area of Ado-Ekiti, the defendants conspired to commit a felony, specifically, threatening violence.

Inspector Oriyomi said that on the same date, time, and place, they were found in possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and that they threatened to kill Falana Oriyomi and Aladegoke Samuel.

The prosecutor added that they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Inspector Oriyomi said the offences are punishable under Sections 421, 46, and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021 and Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2009.

Counsel for the defendants, Barrister R. S. Etuwewe, urged the court to grant her clients bail, stating that they would present themselves for trial without fail.

The Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted bail of N50,000 for each defendant with one surety in the same amount.

The case was adjourned until September 19, for a hearing.
