Two motorcycle riders lost their lives when they collided on Friday night at Manderegi village near Abaji, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

Our reporter learnt that one of the cyclists died few minutes after he was rushed to Abaji General Hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

A witness said the incident happened at about 8:15pm when one of the cyclists was riding against traffic without the head lights on and collided with another motorcycle coming from the Abaji end.

He said the other motorcycle had no light either, adding that one of  the cyclists died on the spot while the other died at the hospital.

“In fact, the two motorcycles had no headlight that night and one of the riders who was coming from Awawa was on speed and collided with the other coming from Abaji end,” he said.

When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the incident, saying the two corpses of the cyclists have been deposited at Abaji General Hospital.

He attributed the incident to speed limit violation and loss of control, adding that the two motorcycles had been taken to the police station.

He said five other persons were also involved in another accident which occurred on Thursday evening near Abaji bridge.

He said the accident happened around 6:19pm during a heavy rainfall, in which a Toyota Corolla without registration number lost control and crashed into a ditch. He said those injured were taken to Abaji General Hospital

The FRSC commander blamed the driver for over speed despite heavy downpour in the area.
