The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that two people died from a gas explosion that occurred on Thursday evening which left over 20 people injured and many shops razed.
Spokesman of the Command in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed to our correspondent that the two victims died yesterday afternoon from complications following the gas explosion, while the remaining are still receiving treatment in hospital.
Daily Trust Saturday reports that a gas explosion injured 20 people and razed several shops at Sheka quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The explosion reportedly went off around 8pm on Thursday at a gas cylinder refilling shop.
A resident of the area, Malam Idi, said the gas exploded and went into flames, leading to several people getting burnt and many shops razed.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf, said 20 victims were affected.
He said the affected victims were evacuated to a hospital by firemen deployed to the scene by the Service, adding that the cause of the incident was linked to a man frying and selling fish near the gas shop.
