Two people reportedly died in an accident that occurred at Ovia River on the Iguabazua-Benin Road, in Ovia South East Local Government of Edo State.
Four others were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident, while one other person escaped unhurt.
The accident happened when a tipper loaded with gravel, heading towards Benin City at top speed, lost control and rammed into an on-coming vehicle.
The Edo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident.
He said seven people were involved in the accident – two died, four were injured, while one escaped unhurt.
He attributed the accident to overspeeding by the tipper driver, who he said lost control and rammed into another vehicle.
Mathew said the injured victims were taken to the hospital while the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.
