2 drivers jailed for attacking traffic officers in lagos
A Lagos Mobile Court has sentenced two commercial bus drivers to three months jail term for organizing a mob to attack officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in Onikan area of Lagos.
The convicts were charged before the court on Tuesday by the state government.
While presenting their case, LASTMA said the attackers were apprehended following an assault on its official by the drivers and some others on Monday April 7 in the vicinity of LASTMA Central District (Zone 9, Victoria Island) located in the Victoria Island/Lekki corridor of Lagos.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the duo organized a mob attack on traffic officials because a commercial minibus
With registration number SMK 742 YJ was arrested by the LASTMA officials.
Bakare-Oki explained that the bus was impounded for violating the state government traffic laws at Mekwen Bridge, inward Flag House.
“In a blatant act of defiance, the driver of the vehicle mobilised a group of fellow commercial transport operators, to the scene in two additional minibuses and unleashed a vicious attack on the LASTMA officials.
“The timely intervention of security personnel led to the arrest of the convicts, who were immediately arraigned before the Lagos Mobile Court at Oshodi,” he said.
