An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced two men, Onileowo Rotimi and Adetola Ayodele, both 42 years old, to death by hanging and life imprisonment for conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.
According to court records, the convicts committed the crimes on October 7, 2016, at Abuta, Omuo Ekiti, where they conspired to rob and kidnap one Mrs. Ajibola Oyelola.
Prosecuting counsel, Akinola Abon stated that the offences contravened Sections 516, 402, and 403 (A) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, as well as Section 3 (a)(b) of the Ekiti State Kidnapping and Terrorism (Prohibition) Laws, 2015.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses and tendered the defendants’ statements as exhibits.

In their defence, the accused, who were represented by legal counsel, admitted to having met and formed a friendship while in prison. They did not call any witnesses.
Delivering judgment, Justice Bamidele Omotoso held that the prosecution had convincingly established the charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and armed robbery.
Consequently, the court sentenced both men to life imprisonment for kidnapping and death by hanging for armed robbery.
