Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have arrested two people, identified as Emmanuel Linus and Moses Daniel, for impersonating Nigerian Army officers.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who disclosed this while parading the suspects in Abuja on Tuesday, said they were apprehended on November 30, 2024, around 2pm dressed in full Nigerian Army camouflage.

He said during the initial interrogation, one of the suspects, Linus, presented a fake military identification card that listed December 20, 2024, as his date of birth.

He said intelligence gathered while he was in custody revealed that Linus is a member of a syndicate that specialised in defrauding their victims.

According to him, the two suspects reportedly purchased goods and services using fake bank alerts to deceive sellers.

He said the police have commenced investigation into the matter, while efforts were on to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

He also disclosed that six one-chance groups were arrested by the operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the command.

He said one Ibrahim Kabiru was arrested by the operatives during routine patrol along Ahmadu Bello Way, Abuja, which led to the arrest of other one-chance members.

“The suspicious way Ibrahim Kabiru parked his vehicle prompted a search and some exhibits such as a POS machine, knife, scissors, two mobile phones and a female luggage were found,” he said.

He said seven vehicles with tinted glasses allegedly used by the one-chance groups were also recovered from them.
