Security agents suspected to be military personnel have arrested Sobomabo Jackrich, the Rivers State Governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election.
Two of his aides who were present at his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area of the state during the incident were reportedly killed, and their bodies taken away. The development took place around 3:00 am on Monday in an operation that lasted several hours, Daily Trust gathered.
Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed that the politician was arrested by other security agencies. “He was arrested by other security agencies,” Koko stated on the police WhatsApp platform.
Community sources suggested that Jackrich’s arrest may be related to the military crackdown on suspected killers of some military personnel in Okuama, Delta State.
Jackrich, also known as ‘Egberipapa,’ is a former militant leader who embraced amnesty during the tenure of late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua.
Soibibo Sokari, media aide to Jackrich, confirmed the incident and the killing of two aides to the politician. He stated that two persons were killed, and their bodies were taken away along with his principal.
