A Gambian, a Senegalese and a Nigerian have been ordered to be remanded in prison following their arraignment before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly dealing in illegal trade of 300 metric tonnes of diesel.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the trio alongside their vessel, MT Wolof, on a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and unlawful dealing in petroleum products, an offence said to be committed sometime in June.

The defendants, Baboucar Jallow, Ndiaga Ba and Abel Bassey, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Rejecting the bail application filed by their lawyer, Adegboyega Adetunji, Justice Idri held that, “There is no evidence that the defendants are resident within the jurisdiction of this court. Therefore, bail is refused; accelerated hearing of this case is hereby ordered.”

The judge adjourned till December 13 for commencement of trial.
