2 herbalists accused of preparing charms for kidnappers arrested in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two herbalists, Peter Benson (35) and Joseph Saniyo (63), along with three other individuals, over alleged kidnapping activities in the state.

According to the police, the other suspects arrested with the herbalists include the alleged leader of the kidnapping gang, Owei Abebo (42), Ebi Maye (41), and Happy Obegha (39).

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Edafe Bright, stated that the herbalists are responsible for preparing charms and performing rituals for a criminal gang operating in Sapele, Oghara, and their surrounding areas.

He explained that following intelligence about the gang’s plan to abduct a high-profile individual, operatives arrested Peter Benson, a suspected spiritual herbalist involved in ritual preparations for the gang. Benson then led the operatives to Joseph Saniyo, who is believed to be the primary spiritual leader of the group.

The intelligence provided by the arrested suspects also led to the arrest of the wanted gang leader, Owei Abebo, and his accomplices, Ebi Maye and Happy Obegha.

Among the items recovered from the suspects’ hideouts were 247 rounds of live ammunition for a Submachine Gun (SMG) rifle.
