Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted two herders near Ohizi village, Kogi LGA, which borders Kogi State and the FCT.

A member of the vigilante from the area, who confirmed the incident to our reporter by telephone on Tuesday, said the incident happened on Monday, around 6:12 am, when the herders were on a motorcycle coming to the Abaji cattle market.

He said the herders were carrying a sheep on the motorcycle when the gunmen suddenly emerged from a nearby forest, flagged them down at gunpoint, and whisked them into the bush.

He said the vigilante members were alerted by some farmers who saw the gunmen whisking the herders into the bush.

He said the vigilantes quickly mobilized into the bush to trace the gunmen.

“Even as I am talking to you, some of our members are already in the forest trying to trace the kidnappers in order to see how the herders will be rescued,” he said.

He said the herders’ motorcycle found at the scene had been taken to the Chikara Police Division, even as he disclosed that a similar incident happened two weeks ago, after some suspected gunmen attempted to abduct herders on their way to Abaji market.

A police source at the Chikara Police Division, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying some police officers have already mobilized in collaboration with vigilante members into the forest to rescue the victims.
