Two herders, a male and a female, were reportedly killed on Monday evening around the Tahore community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Herders in the area said the victims were ambushed and shot dead on a motorcycle while returning home from Maikatako market.
State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos, stating it occurred in the evening.
He identified the deceased as Umar Sa’idu and Rashida Yakubu.

Babayo condemned the attack and called on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence in the Bokkos area.
“Immediately after the attack, I informed the Commander of Operation Safe Haven and the GOC of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army. I also contacted the State Commissioner of Police and the State Director of Security. They urged us to remain patient as investigations commence and warned against any form of reprisal,” he said.
Babayo urged Fulani community members to remain calm and law-abiding.
“We must not take the law into our own hands. Though these repeated attacks are heartbreaking, we trust the security agencies to act justly. We have recently lost over 100 cattle and now two of our members,” he added.
When contacted, John Apollos Maton, Esq., a member of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard and Secretary of Ron-Kulere Jos & Environs, said they were unaware of such an incident.
“Our members have not attacked anyone. The only people they confront are the terrorists attacking our communities. So, if they are claiming these individuals, then they must be the terrorists that have been targeting us,” Maton said.
Spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, has yet to respond to inquiries on the incident.
Daily Trust reports that numerous attacks have occurred in Bokkos between March and April. In response, security forces, including police and soldiers, have been deployed to restore order.
Last week, a security meeting was convened by Major General Folusho Oyinlola, GOC 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, in light of renewed violence in Jos South and Riyom LGAs.
