Two housekeepers were on Monday docked in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing $6000 belonging to their employer’s friend.
The Police charged Kelvin Agu and Cecilia Usman with criminal conspiracy and theft.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Ms Fatima Ahmed, of Wuye, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on April 30.
Nwachukwu said that the defendants stole the money from their employer’s handbag when they went in to clean her bedroom. (NAN)
Nwachukwu told the court that during police investigation, the defendants made a confessional statement admitting the offence.
She told the court that all efforts made to recover the said money failed.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the penal code.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum each.
Jobbo, ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and provide reliable means of identification.
He adjourned the case until June 29 for hearing.(NAN)
