Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two kidnapping suspects who allegedly abducted two youths from the Okrika area of the state, killed one of them and dumped his remains in a river.

The police spokesperson in the state, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said operatives launched an investigation into the incident following a distress petition, leveraging intelligence-led policing.

The investigation, she added, led to the arrest of two suspects: 26-year-old Igwe Alex and 24-year-old John Mikel, both of Aleto-Eleme.

The statement reads in part: “The Rivers State Police Command has made significant progress in the investigation into the disappearance of Sampson Worianime, who was reported missing on November 11, 2025, after accompanying community youths from the Ogbogbo community in Okrika to measure land at their old settlement.

“Following a distressing petition by the victim’s mother, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an investigation. This led to the arrest of Igwe Alex and John Mikel. During preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to abducting two youths from Okrika. While one of the youths escaped, Worianime was killed by the suspects and his body dumped into a nearby river.”

The spokesperson further said the suspects led police operatives to the location where the body was hidden and the remains of the deceased recovered from a shallow grave.

The command, in the statement, assured the public of its commitment to justice and urged citizens to provide any information that might aid the ongoing investigation.
