Two persons have reportedly lost their lives while many were injured during a bloody fracas between rival secret cults around Ilupeju and the Shomolu areas of Lagos.
The fracas, which started on Monday night, was reignited yesterday along Adesiyan and Shyllon axis both in the Ilupeju areas of Lagos.
More than 20 vehicles and several shops were also destroyed by the warring gangs who went from street to street smashing windscreens of vehicles parked along the street.
The urchins, who are rival members of Aiye and Eiye confraternity, also looted goods belonging to traders.
Witnesses said there was sporadic shooting late Monday night in the area, which forced residents to remain indoors throughout yesterday while shop owners hastily shut down for business.
Kazeem Onilemo, a resident alleged that some of the warring factions came from Mushin while others were from adjoining communities in Shomolu.
A legal practitioner and former Deputy Controller of the Guardian Newspaper, Tunde Kolawole, who also confirmed the crisis said there has been sporadic shootings by non-state actors around Ilupeju
“Unfortunately, we have not seen any robust actions from any of the security agencies, to rein in the perpetrators of the shootings,” he said.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, however, said he would get back for details of what transpired.
