A Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced two men, Sanusi Abdulhameed (29) and Daniel Ayo (26), to three months imprisonment each for stealing tubers of yam worth N75,000.

The convicts were arraigned on a three-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass and theft, offences they admitted committing and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Sani Mohammed, however, gave the convicts N4,000 option of fine each.

The Prosecutor, Ayomide Adeyanju, had told the court that one Mohammed Abdullazeez, Iwuchukwu and Alhassan Abdullhadi of Behind Bristol Academy, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on October 5, 2018.

“The complainants alleged that the convicts jointly conspired and trespassed into their farms located at the above mentioned address and stole tubers of yam worth N75,000.

“During police investigation, some of the tubers of yam valued at N45,000 were recovered, while effort to recover the remaining tubers valued at N30,000, proved abortive,” Adeyanju said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 80, 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
