Two men identified as Tunde Akinwumi, 20, and Tunde Akinboyewa, 25, who allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl and another 14-year-old old in Ondo West local government area, Ondo State, are now cooling their heels behind police bars.

Akinwunmi and Akinboyewa, who the police described as cult members and ex-convicts, were alleged to have locked the girls inside a house and raped them through the night.

Police sources said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off that suspected cultists numbering about five had abducted two young girls between the ages of 18 and 14.

Policemen then traced the suspects to a house, arrested the two men and rescued the girls, while the other members of the cult group escaped.

But the two suspects claimed they picked the girls up at a night club.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said investigation conducted by the police later revealed that the suspects were “ex-convicts and habitual criminals.”

According to Adie, some items like one UTC stainless knife, one red beret of a cult group known as “Piece”, a mobile phone and a jeans jacket allegedly stolen from one Mr Farouk were recovered from the house where the incident took place.

One of the suspects, Akinwumi, saying it was consensual intercourse they had with the girls, adding that they picked them from a night club to his house where they engaged them in sex throughout the night.

Akinwumi, however, said they had not given the girls money before they were arrested.
