A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced two men, Adebiyi Olusola and Oguntola John, to 30 days’ imprisonment for public nudity.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 13 at about 4:00 a.m. in the Palace area of Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi said the defendants wandered around the palace area and on a public highway naked in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 181(1)(d)(h) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Ogunleye Abiola, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, noting that the defendants had pleaded guilty to the charge.

In his judgment, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adosun, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the defendants had pleaded guilty as charged.

He subsequently sentenced them to 30 days’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
