2 nabbed for trafficking minor to burkina faso

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two lovers, Alex Omoseve (47) and Miss Precious Akpasuvbe (25) for allegedly trafficking a 16-year- old minor to Burkina Faso for prostitution.

Parading the suspects, the Edo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbegan Agu, said on January 29, one Hope Friday reported a case of her missing 16-year-old sister and that she suspected one Miss Precious Akpasuvbe.

He said, “Immediately, the NSCDC’s combined team of intelligent and counter terrorism units swung into action and arrested the principal suspect, identified as Alex Omoseve (47), the boyfriend to Precious Akpasuvbe.

He said he was arrested at Agbor Park area of Benin City and that during investigation, it was discovered that the missing girl was trafficked to Burkina Faso for prostitution without the consent of her parents.

According to him, the suspects confessed to the crime while the victim had been brought back to the country and reunited with her family.

He said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

The victim in an interview with journalists said the suspect, who often comes to her sister’s shop, promised to take her abroad to work as a house help.

“But on reaching Burkina Faso, they told me that my work is to be sleeping with men and I started crying. I later begged someone who gave me a phone to inform my sister, who wasn’t aware of my journey. That was how I returned to Nigeria,” she said.

The principal suspect, Alex Omoseve, said he met the victim at her sister’s shop where he used to gamble.

“She told me she wanted to travel and I introduced her to my girlfriend who knew the people over there to help her. I don’t know anybody there but my girlfriend was there before and she assisted her,” he explained.

On her part, Precious Akpasuvia told journalists that she took the victim to Burkina Faso for prostitution and that they were paid N200,000 by her partner in Burkina Faso.

She said before she was arrested, she had already trafficked two girls to Burkina Faso, who are still into prostitution and sending money back home.
