Two sisters, Maryam Muhammad Jallo and Rukaiya Muhammad Jallo, who own Jamal Health Foundation were sentenced to 10 years on Tuesday by Justice Muhammad Tukur of the State High Court in Kaduna, for criminal breach of trust. The judge however gave them each a N100,000 fine option. The sisters solicited for donations for Usman Umar who had partial paralyses and got N1 million from Alhaji Badamasi Shanono and N700,000 from a woman but converted it to personal use
Two suspected drug peddlers have been arrested in Kano by the Customs’ strike force Zone B in connection with smuggling of over 35 cartons of fake anti malaria drugs.
The Deputy Comptroller General of custom, Zone B, O.A. Olorukuba, while displaying the seized drugs did not give names of the culprits but said they were presently on administrative bail.
He stated that the drugs were not registered just as they did not have NAFDAC certification, thereby posing a great risk to health if consumed.
The drugs are among the several other items confiscated by the strike force within three weeks of its operation in Kano.
He listed other confiscated goods as; 268 bales of second-hand clothes, 53 kegs of 25liter of vegetable oil, 205 50kg bags of foreign rice as well as 95 cartons of spaghetti with a total duty value of N24.3m.
He further warned smugglers to steer clear of the state and get another means of livelihood as Customs operatives alongside sister agencies were on ground to enforce compliance to bring smuggling to the barest minimum.
