The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that two persons lost their lives in a stampede on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

The victims died at the Zone 2 Inksmarket centre at Rumuodara when hundreds of people from three local government areas of Ikwerre, Obio Anpor and Emouha had gathered to collect palliatives from Inksmarket, a Port Harcourt based online marketer.

Witnesses said hundreds of the online registered customers gathered at the centre to collect palliatives from the company.

The witness said the number of persons that had gathered to collect the palliatives overstretched the centre’s facilities, thereby leading to the stampede.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nnmadi Omoni, confirmed that two persons died in the incident.

Omoni said some people sustained various degrees of injuries and were receiving medical attention.

He said the situation was under control and the Commissioner of Police had instituted a probe into the incident with a view to ascertaining the circumstances and bringing persons found culpable to justice.
