A chief magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos State, has ordered that two persons, 40-year-old Stanley Masuka and Gloria Uma, 50, be remanded in prison custody over the theft of an eight-month old.

The prosecutor, Benson Emerhi, told the court that Maduka was on his way to hand over the baby boy to Uma, when he was trailed from Morogbo, in Badagry, to Iyana Isashi where he was arrested.

Emerhi said, “The first defendant had agreed to hand over the baby to Gloria at Isashi. The police team on patrol followed the defendant from Morogbo to Iyana Isashi because they suspected that the baby may have been stolen.

“At the time of the arrest, the baby was crying and refused to be breast-fed by Gloria. During interrogation, Gloria could also not give the name of the baby. The police, reasonably suspecting the defendants, arrested and took them to the station.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in the like sum.
