Two pupils of Glory Land Group of Schools, Igarra, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State were on Tuesday evening abducted by gunmen.

It was gathered that the victims were travelling to Auchi when they were kidnapped near Ikpeshi on the Igarra-Auchi road.

Sources said the victims were “identified” and dragged out of the vehicle, leaving other occupants of the vehicle.

A source said, “The kidnappers asked the children in the vehicle the name of their father so as not to kidnap the wrong children.”

Daily Trust learnt that it was on the same road that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Igarra was shot by suspected kidnappers a few months ago.

Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the incident, saying, “Yes, two students were kidnapped and moved into the bush.”

He said a combined team of the police, soldiers and vigilantes was already combing the bush for rescue.
