A magistrates’ court in Makurdi, Benue State capital, has ordered the remand of two men for attacking and shooting at policemen on duty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the men, Kator Aondohemba and Aondongu Iniongu, were charged with conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and terrorism.
The Magistrate, Mr Vincent Kor, did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to October 15.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Hyacinth Gbakor, told the court that on August 26, while on patrol on Vandeikya, Adikpo and Ugbema roads, a police team led by ASP Danlami Usman intercepted three men on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle and that on sighting the policemen, the young men jumped off the motorcycle and ran into a bush.
He said the police operatives chased them into the bush where the suspects opened fire on the operatives, but were repelled, resulting in a shootout but were overpowered and arrested. (NAN)
