A Benin High Court has remanded two persons, Ile Itua (25) and Kingsley Michael (36), in a correctional centre over alleged killing of a toddler, Gift Kelly-Esosa, a year and nine months old in Edo State.

The prosecutor, Polycap Odion, had earlier told the court that the suspect committed the offence on the March 12, 2025, in Benin, within the jurisdiction of the court

He said the defendants unlawfully killed the little girl with a vehicle and also attempted to murder two other persons, Osaretin Osasumwen and Obasogie Ruth with the same vehicle

The prosecutor further told the court that the offences contravened Sections 239 (a) (b) and 243 (a).

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

But the counsel to the defendants, Mr Paul Badaki, appealed for their bail, explaining that the case was not as it was presented by the prosecutor.

The presiding Judge Justice, Williams Azeigbemhin, directed the defence counsel to bring formal bail application to the court.

He ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to April 1, 2025.
