An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Olaniyi Anu and Alobaloye Abidemi to life imprisonment for gang rape and two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy involving a 13-year-old minor.

The crime occurred on December 28, 2020, when the victim was sent on an errand. One of the convicts intercepted her, misdirected her to his friend’s place, and both forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The victim later recognised both convicts, leading to their arrest and prosecution.

According to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Barrister Julius Ajibare, the offences violated Section 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021 (Conspiracy) and Section 2(2)(c) of the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) (First Amendment) Law, 2020 (Gang Rape).

The prosecution called four witnesses and tendered seven exhibits to support the case.

In their defence, the convicts spoke through their counsel, Oluwafemi Alonge, but called no additional witnesses.

Delivering the judgment, Justice A. A. Adeleye ruled that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt and subsequently sentenced the convicts to life imprisonment for gang rape and two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.
