Two persons, identified as Godday Baba and Ogank Okorodo, sustained gunshot wounds while 11 others were abducted after bandits ambushed a bus along the Hayin Dam–Sabon-Kurutu–Kachia road in Kaduna State.

A local resident, Sahadu Bala, confirmed the abduction to our reporter via telephone on Thursday, stating that the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 11:23 am.

 He explained that the bus was conveying travelers from Hayin Dam to Katari when bandits suddenly emerged from a nearby forest and opened fire on the vehicle.

“Two among the travelers sustained bullet injuries, while the remaining occupants, including the driver, were whisked away into the bush by the bandits,” Bala said.

A community leader in the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, also confirmed the abduction on Thursday. 

He noted that the victims were traveling from Hayin Dam to the Katari market when the ambush occurred.

“There are several villages in this area that have already been deserted. The road between Hayin Dam and Sabon-Kurutu has become a ‘black spot’ where bandits frequently take advantage of the isolation to attack travelers,” he said.

The source further disclosed that three other people were abducted in Katari town after bandits invaded the community on Wednesday night. 

He expressed frustration that despite the presence of security operatives in the region, bandits often have a “field day,” operating freely without challenge.

A police source in the area confirmed the incident but referred our reporter to the command headquarters in Kaduna for further details. 

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached by phone at the time of filing the report.
