The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that two soldiers and a vigilante lost their lives during a gun duel between bandits and the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The Joint Task Force also neutralised seven bandits during the operation.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the command received a report of a bandit attack on the community on Sunday at about 4:32 p.m.

Habib explained that during the encounter, two soldiers attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, and a member of the local vigilante group paid the supreme price.

“Three members of the affected community were also abducted, while about seven bandits were neutralised by the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) during the gun duel,” he said.

He added that additional security personnel have been deployed to restore order, protect displaced residents, and prevent further attacks in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured that monitoring and intelligence gathering are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing assailants, as well as rescue the abducted victims.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, has expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of banditry and insecurity in Alkaleri Local Government Area, particularly in Gwana, Duguri, and neighbouring communities.

In a statement by its state chairman, Abbas Abba, the party noted that the affected areas have become increasingly volatile in recent weeks, largely due to their proximity to expansive forests bordering neighbouring states.
