A chief magistrate’s court in Benin, yesterday, remanded two sons of a former Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly for allegedly threatening to kill their father.

The accused persons, Emmanuel, 30, and Davis, 33, sons of Hon. Fred Omoigberai, were said to have constantly threatened to kill their father as well as intimidating other members of his family.

The two and others now at large were also alleged to have between 2000 and October, 20, 2017, conspired to belong to a secret cult group (Eiye confraternity).

According to the charge sheet, the two brothers had on September 23, scaled the fence to their father’s house at No.1, Fred Omoigberai Street, Sapele Road, Benin, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.

The charge sheet also said they held the security man on guard hostage for several hours at gun point and attempted to break the doors to gain entrance to the living rooms with the intent to attack, rob, assassinate or kidnap the occupants; particularly their father.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Caroline Oghuma, directed that the case file be forwarded to the State Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
