2 students die from inhalation, others from drinking contest

Two students of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja have reportedly died from inhaling suspected poisonous gas from a generator during their sleep at a lodge outside the campus.

The students – Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo, 20, and Ibrahim Haliru, 26, were picked up dead the following day, while the third person, Mary Ojochegbe, was reportedly found unconscious in the room.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer SP William Ovye Aya confirmed the incident.

Daily Trust Saturday gathered that the deceased students and their friend went to bed at a lodge located outside Felele, Lokoja main campus, on Monday hale and hearty.

The Public Relations Manager of the state polytechnic, Mrs Uredo Omale, confirmed the incident, saying, the case has been reported to the B Division of the state police command for proper investigation.

Similarly, two persons reportedly died in Isanlu, the headquarters of Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State after drinking self-made herbal concoction.

The deceased, who were involved in a four persons contest, alongside others, reportedly mixed herb fruits identified as ‘gegemu’ and ‘obo’ to make the concoction to test their drinking capacity.
