Two students have won SystemSpecs’ Children’s Day Essay Competition (CDEC) which it held to mark its 30 years of operations.
The students emerged out of 2,000 entrants from 795 schools nationwide; 11-year-old Oluwaseun Samuel Temitayo-Ojo of Igbobi College Lagos won the junior category while 15-year-old Ekemini Keziah Effiong-Robert of African Church Model College Lagos won in the senior category.
Somadina Edeh, 10, of Independence Layout Nursery and Primary School Enugu and 12-year-old Emmanuel Nkanu Nkanu of St Anne High School Calabar were the first and second runners-up in the junior category just as Chetachi Best Mbalu, 13, from Lagooz School Lagos who won the junior category last year, was second in the senior category this year. The third place was won by David Nkereuwem, 13, of Holy Mary Comprehensive College Benin City.
The overall winner in both the junior and senior categories got a laptop, headphones, a free 3-month coding course at uLesson Coding School, one year data subscription, branded travel suitcase, hoodie, a thermal flask, and school bag.
The second and third placed winners would also get similar packages, according to SystemSpecs.
The top three winners in each category will also gain automatic admission into the SystemSpecs National Summer Coding Camp, while the other top 30 Honour Roll would also be rewarded.
Group Head, Corporate Services, SystemSpecs, Oluwasegun Adesanya, said this year’s competition is unique because it is part of the 30th-anniversary celebration.
“The quality of essays that we received from this year’s participants was mind-blowing. We have also identified inspiring solutions proffered by these young Nigerians as we are set to take the next step of translating their ideas to reality through our corporate social responsibility and collaboration with relevant stakeholders,” Adesanya added.
