Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 25 suspected cultists during a raid on a cult initiation ground in Delta State.

Two other suspects sustained gunshot injuries during an exchange of fire with police operatives.

The command’s spokesman, CSP Bright Edafe, said the suspects were allegedly linked to recent cult-related killings in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to him, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a suspected cult initiation ground at Agbarho and arrested the suspects.

Edafe alleged that the suspects were members of the Eiye Confraternity and were planning further acts of violence as well as the initiation of new members.

He said some of the suspects opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them, prompting the police to respond.

“During the operation, two of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries, while several others escaped from the scene,” he said.

Edafe disclosed that one pump-action shotgun and a cut-to-size firearm were recovered during the operation.

The injured suspects are receiving medical treatment, while investigations are ongoing, he added.
