Police and Army personnel in Delta State have neutralized two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle, recovering N3.5 million in ransom money.
According to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, launched an operation following an intelligence report.
The CP said the teams stormed a forest hideout in Ogwashi-Ukwu where suspected kidnappers were believed to be holding two female polytechnic students. During the raid, a gun duel ensued, resulting in the death of two suspects.
He said an AK-47 rifle, 39 rounds of live ammunition and a bag containing N3.5 million, which is believed to be ransom money collected from a victim were recovered from the scene.
