Two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun duel with police operatives, while three others escaped with gunshot injuries in an operation carried out near Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, who disclosed this to journalists on Thursday, said the incident occurred on May 3, when operatives acted on credible intelligence and stormed a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Karshi area, along the border between the FCT and Nasarawa State.

According to him, the suspects, on sighting the police team, opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.

“In the ensuing operation, the gang leader, identified as Baba Ibrahim, also known as “Tsoho,” and another suspect, Isah Shehu, were neutralised, while three others fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries,” he said.

He added that one member of the gang was arrested during the operation, while two AK-47 rifles, a pistol, and 17 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the hideout.

CP Sanusi further disclosed that the syndicate has been linked to several kidnapping incidents across Gwagwalada, Nyanya, Jikwoyi, and Karshi areas of the FCT, with at least 12 victims abducted.

He also alleged that the gang had engaged in other criminal activities, including sexual assault of a female victim and the killing of three victims even after collecting ransom payments totalling over N60 million.
