2 women ask court for divorce over threat to lives

A housewife, Mrs Opeyemi Olowookere, has dragged her husband, Mr Matthew Olowookere, to a customary court in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, seeking a dissolution of their five-year old marriage, which is blessed with a three-year-old child, Inioluwa.

Opeyemi told the court that Olowookere, whom she described as “a drunkard and hemp smoker,” was fond of beating her with dangerous weapons, threatening her life with a cutlass and had not been giving her peace of mind, saying there was no more love between them.

Another woman, Mrs Otokuti Helen Adeyoola is praying the same court to dissolve her childless 16-year-old marriage to her husband, Otokuti Stephen Adebayo, on grounds of threat to her life.

Helen stated that the respondent had sent her out of their matrimonial home and she no longer loved him.

The petitioners in the two cases were present in court yesterday, while the respondents were absent.

The president of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, adjourned both cases till September 1, 2020, for hearing.
