2 women docked in Ekiti for alleged fraud, theft

Two women, Sike Ogunsola, 29, and Roseline Olaniyi, 41, have been docked before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court, Ekiti State, for alleged fraud and possession of stolen good.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, briefing the court yesterday, said the two defendants committed the offence sometime in October 2019 at Ilupeju Avenue, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti.

Leranmo stated that the defendants obtained the sum of N957,500 from Mrs Fakande Funmilayo on the pretext of supplying her 25 bags of rice valued at N352,500, 25 kegs of vegetable oil valued at N250,000, 59 kegs of palm oil valued at N295,000 and 150 tubers of yam valued at N60,000.

The police prosecutor also alleged that Ogunsola, between the months of August 2019 and January 2020, at Ilupeju Avenue, Ado-Ekiti, had in her possession a Thermocool deep freezer reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

Leranmo said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

He asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Olayemi Olatunde, urged the court to grant his clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case till February 27, 2020 for hearing.
