2 women killed, 5 injured in Yangoji auto crash

Two middle aged women lost their lives while five other passengers were injured in an auto crash that occurred on Tuesday evening at Yangoji village, on Abuja – Lokoja road.

A witness said the crash happened at about 5:30pm and involved a Volkswagen Golf car with registration number KKF 171CG.

He alleged that the driver was speeding while conveying passengers from Zuba to Okene, when one of the tyres burst and the driver lost control of the car which crashed into a ditch.

He said the two women were flung out of the car as it somersaulted and then crashed on them leaving them lifeless at the sidewalk.

He said the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rushed to the scene to convey the injured passengers and the corpses to hospital.

When contacted, the Yangoji unit commander of FRSC, ACC Joseph Godwin Samgbaza, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to speed limit violation and tyre burst.

He said the corpses of the two women had been deposited at Kwali General Hospital morgue while the five injured passengers were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

In a related development, 12 persons were injured in another crash that occurred on Monday night at Yaba junction.

The Abaji unit commander of FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruso, who confirmed the accident to our reporter, yesterday, said it happened at about 9pm and involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KTG 226 YG.

He said the accident was caused by speed limit violation and loss of control, adding that the 12 injured persons were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment.
