Twenty people have been killed in separate road accidents in Ogun and Ogun states.

At least 16 passengers have been reportedly burnt to death while three others sustained injuries in a road crash in Ogun, four people were confirmed dead in a lone accident involving an articulated vehicle in Kogi.

Daily Trust gathered that the accident in Ogun State, which occurred at the Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway on Tuesday, involved a white Mazda bus registered as KJA 949 YJ.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said the gender of the victims could not be ascertained as they were burnt beyond recognition.

Okpe blamed the crash on a fire outbreak in the vehicle, adding that the bus, which was conveying 21 passengers, also had a filled gas cylinder in it, leading to an explosion.

Okpe said the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta while the corpses are still at the scene waiting for evacuation.

4 dead in Kogi crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four people in a lone accident involving an articulated vehicle in Kogi.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident was caused by over speeding and brake failure.

The sector commander said the fatal accident occurred around 7.20 pm on Monday, opposite the Produce, Falele along the Lokoja-Okene Road, where the truck crashed into the concrete road divider.

Oyedeji said the injured victims were rescued and rushed to the Honey Gold Hospital for medical attention while the corpses of the dead were taken to the mortuary of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja.

2 burnt to death in Oyo filling station

Two persons lost their lives in an explosion that occurred on Tuesday at the Orita Challenge outlet of Gabstab Mega Petrol Station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying a petrol tanker driver and his motor boy were burnt beyond recognition.

He stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the tanker driver lost control as a result of a brake failure, which resulted in the tanker spilling its content, thereby catching fire in the process.
