Dr. Ojo stated this shortly after declaring open a 3-day training on seed certification and quality control organised by NASC at the Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR), a subsidiary of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
“In 2014, GES reached out to over 90 per cent of Nigerian farmers.
Before the introduction of GES, only 11 per cent of Nigerian farmers got fertilizers, but now, over 90 per cent got the commodity from their redemption centres. In view of the enormous success recorded by GES in Nigeria, countries like China, Brazil, Kenya and Tanzania came to borrow a leaf from us.
“We are urging our farmers to use the opportunity of GES and turn their farming activities to business ventures. This is why the programme is targeting about 20 million farmers next year. All tiers of government, cooperative societies, private organisations, as well as individuals are partners in progress as far as agricultural transformation is concerned,” Dr. Ojo said.
Earlier, the NASC Regional Head, North-West Zone, Malam Mohammed Ubandoma, said the training is one of the ways of augmenting the efforts of the minister of agriculture.
