A 20-year-old man who claimed to be operating with a gang of four was arrested yesterday by the police at Kubwa in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following his failed attempt to steal a car from a compound in the area. 

It was gathered that the suspect, Emmanuel Matthew, got into the vehicle and was making effort to start it when the owner came out of his room.

The man, who preferred to remain anonymous, told our reporter that he had set to leave for office around 7am and had already went into the car parked inside his compound, only to notice that he forgot his phone in the house.

He said he went back in leaving the car’s key in the ignition only to find the suspect making attempt to start it when he returned.

“I pleaded with him to get down but all in vein and all effort to open the vehicle’s door were not successful either.

“So I rushed to my house gate and locked it before shouting out for assistance which attracted my neighbours before the man gave up and came out of the vehicle,” the man said.

The suspect who is now assisting the police on how to get to his accomplices, said he went out in the early hours of the day to test his luck following his friend’s refusal to give him some money to buy food the previous night because he refused to participate in an operation where some handsets were stolen.

He said the person who usually bought the stolen goods from them had challenged him to provide him with a vehicle, and that he would take the police to the said person.

 

The Divisional Police Officer DPO of Kubwa, CSP Ayobami Surajudeen, confirmed the incident adding that the police would trace the other alleged accomplices and carry out a thorough investigation about the matter.
